PDL method
The PDL method is an experiential approach to language learning that emphasizes active engagement. From the very first lesson, this technique allows participants to immerse themselves in the spirit and structure of a foreign language. The activities, techniques, and overall approach enable participants of all language levels to engage in authentic communication from the very beginning.
What is the PDL method?
It is a learning method based on the ability to relate to others while respecting one’s own pace and personal learning style. When we truly make a new skill our own, the brain processes, organizes, stores, and retrieves it so it can be (re)used in new contexts. When the senses are involved in the learning phase - emotional, sensory, and cognitive experience - the likelihood of consolidating what is learned increases and may even accelerate the learning process.
The techniques, methodological repertoire, and variety in each session foster spontaneity and free communication in both oral and written activities. PDL values empathy, cooperation, mindful listening, creativity, and receptivity. This approach helps fix intonation, words, and sounds in a natural way, making language acquisition more effective, enjoyable, and never boring. Participants are at the center of the lesson and experience the language firsthand, engaging informally with the trainer's support and guidance

How did the PDL method originate?
The PDL method was developed by Dr. Bernard and Dr. Marie Dufeu, French pedagogues who introduced an innovative approach to foreign language teaching and learning. Designed as an active alternative to traditional lecture-based instruction, the method draws inspiration from Moreno’s Psychodrama and from Dramaturgy.Within a relaxed, non-competitive environment, learning unfolds through the participants’ natural willingness to connect with others. Each learner is encouraged to explore their personal resources, discover their individual talents, and reshape attitudes that support effective learning. As a result, everyone finds and adopts the expressive forms that feel most natural and meaningful to them.
PDL for groups and individual learners
Whether in group classes or one-to-one sessions, the PDL method comes to life through the guidance of a qualified trainer. The trainer is a language professional with a degree in foreign languages and literatures, and is skilled at supporting learners on a path toward self-directed learning. They provide the essential foundations for getting started, while gradually encouraging autonomy and confident interaction.
A relaxed, cooperative atmosphere allows each participant to learn at their own pace, fully respecting individual rhythms and needs. Through interaction with the trainer and the group, learners create a shared relational space that naturally fosters authentic communication.
Language is no longer treated as a subject to be studied, but as a living tool for real conversation. Ideas and dialogue emerge spontaneously as learners develop their own expressive resources and gain confidence in using the language naturally
